Items We Accept with Conditions

Below, you can find some guidelines regarding metals that are acceptable when certain conditions are met:

  • Ballasts and capacitors—If labeled as “No PCBs” or with documentation noting acceptable levels
  • Batteries—Lead, gel, acid, automobile, stationary or steel clad forklift batteries
  • Barrels and drums—Need to be clean and dry, with no residue or hazardous warning labels; top will be removed for inspection
  • Cylinders/Tanks—For compressed or liquefied gases, remove valves and cut tank in half
  • Lighting fixtures—Ballasts, capacitors and bulbs need to be removed
  • Scrap (Asbestos)—Asbestos must be removed in compliance with regulations and laws
  • Scrap (Fluids)—All fluids should be drained before bringing in, including oils, fuels, coolants, antifreeze, hydraulic oils and solvents
  • Shells and munitions—Please separate from other materials and ensure munitions are discharged and empty
  • Transformers—Drained, dry or documentation showing this


Items We Don’t Accept

  • Mercury, including items that contain mercury
  • Hazardous or toxic waste
  • Scrap with non-metallic recyclables or excessive trash
  • Automobiles
  • Non-lead acid batteries
  • Magnesium turnings
  • Radioactive sources
